ALTOONA, Pa. — “The Magician's Daughter,” a body of work by Ivyside Juried exhibition winner Lisa Co, will be on display Oct. 1 through Nov. 6 in the Sheetz Gallery of the Misciagna Family Center for Performing Arts at Penn State Altoona. The exhibition is free and open to the public.
Co is a Florida-based artist, printmaker and bookmaker originally from coastal Georgia. An associate professor of art at Florida Gateway College, she earned a bachelor of fine arts degree from Armstrong State University and a master of fine arts degree in studio art from Florida State University. Her work explores personal memory and emotion through layered, abstract imagery and visual metaphor.
“The Magician's Daughter” invites visitors to reflect on care, emotional comfort and the unseen experiences that shape our lives. Using printmaking, bookmaking and collage, Co creates layered works featuring repeated imagery, dreamlike spaces and ethereal figures. The exhibition explores themes of longing, vulnerability and the quiet acts of care that connect us to ourselves and others.
Through these works, “The Magician's Daughter” encourages viewers to embrace the complexity of human emotion and recognize the importance of compassion, acceptance and belonging.
The galleries are open Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m.to 2 p.m. and before and during all performances. For further information, call the Misciagna Family Center for Performing Arts at 814-949-5452.
