ALTOONA, Pa. — “Body, Landscape, Myth,” a body of work by Ivyside Juried Exhibition winner Lauren Woods, will be on display Oct. 23 through Nov. 21 in the McLanahan Gallery of the Misciagna Family Center for Performing Arts. The exhibition is free and open to the public.

“Body, Landscape, and Myth” features paintings and videos that explore the relationship between physical experience and metaphysical awareness. Woods stated, “Nature is a recurring source of inspiration in my practice — forest ecosystems, where decay and growth intersect, create reflective spaces to consider non-human time and mythological presence. Solitary exploration in natural settings dissolves boundaries between body, self, and the landscape, creating a heightened awareness of natural rhythms and ephemeral transformations.” “Body, Landscape, Myth” explores these ideas through atmospheric paintings and movement-based video pieces.

Woods said her creative research focuses on embodied expression, nature’s consciousness and the transformative qualities of time. She works across various mediums, including painting, video and dance performances. Born in Mobile, Alabama, Woods received her master of fine arts degree in painting from the New York Academy of Art after completing her bachelor of arts in studio art at Spring Hill College. She is an associate professor of art in the Department of Art and Art History at Auburn University, where she teaches figure drawing and painting.

The galleries are open Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. For further information, call the Misciagna Family Center for Performing Arts at 814-949-5452.
