Four Penn State Altoona softball student-athletes recognized for academics

GREENWOOD, Ind. — Four members of the Penn State Altoona softball team were lauded for their academic accomplishments on May 26 when the College Sports Communicators revealed their NCAA Division III Academic All-District softball teams.

To be eligible for a spot on an Academic All-District softball team, student-athletes must meet certain academic and athletic requirements. Academically, student-athletes must be at least sophomores while holding cumulative grade-point averages of 3.5 or higher. Athletically, players must have played in at least 90 percent of their team's games, or started two thirds of the games. For pitchers, a student-athlete must have made at least 17 appearances or pitched 35 innings. Nominators could submit up to five qualified student-athletes per team.

The four Penn State Altoona softball student-athletes named to the CSC’s NCAA Division III Academic All-District team are:

  • Outfielder Allison Beeman, of Tyrone, majoring in business management and marketing
  • Infielder Lauren Davidson, of Clearfield, majoring in nursing
  • Right-handed pitcher Madison Kennedy, of Williamsburg, majoring in aerospace engineering
  • Catcher Olivia Werkheiser, of Easton, majoring in education
