ALTOONA, Pa. — The fall 2025 issue of “Hard Freight,” Penn State Altoona's student literary arts magazine, is now available online.

The latest issue showcases dozens of works of poetry, short fiction, creative nonfiction, and visual/multimedia art by students. This semester’s issue includes a series of erasure poems of the novel “Exit West” by Mohsin Hamid created by students in Professor Jutta Gsoels-Lorensen’s course CMLIT 147N: Displacement and Migration.

Altoona students interested in serving on the staff of “Hard Freight” may register for the course ENGL 209: Journal Practicum, a one-credit experiential course that focuses on editing the magazine. Students may take the course up to eight times. Student editors select the works to publish, help to organize an open mic event, and design the issue.
