Altoona’s Rachel Stricek earns AMCC Player of the Week nod in women’s tennis

NORTH BOSTON, N.Y. — Penn State Altoona student-athlete Rachel Stricek, of Tyrone, was named the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference’s Player of the Week for women’s tennis on Sept. 29.

Stricek had a solid performance in both singles and doubles last week as she helped Penn State Altoona to go 3-0 against AMCC foe La Roche and non-conference opponents Geneva and Lock Haven.

In Friday’s victory against La Roche, Stricek beat her opponent 6-4, 6-0 in No. 1 singles, while posting a 6-3 win in No. 1 doubles.

After being honored before the match, Stricek would continue to win on the court, bouncing back from a 7-5 loss in the first set to win 6-3 and 10-5 in No. 2 singles. She would also win in No. 1 doubles with a score of 6-2.

In the final game of the weekend, Stricek would post 6-3, 6-2 victories in No. 2 singles.

Penn State Altoona women’s tennis is 9-1 so far this season and returns to action on Oct. 3 as they travel to Williamsport to face Penn College.
