LATROBE, Pa. — Penn State Altoona men’s volleyball’s outside hitter Jack McKenna, of Manahawkin, New Jersey, was selected the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference’s Defensive Player of the Week on April 6.

McKenna continued to provide steady defense for the Lions, who went 3-1 during their final regular-season stretch of AMCC road matches last week.

McKenna tallied seven digs in Penn State Altoona’s 3-0 sweep of Mount Aloysius College on March 31, then followed that up with one dig in another 3-0 victory on April 1 when the Lions downed Carlow University.

The student-athlete registered 10 digs and a block assist on April 3 when Penn State Altoona lost a tight, five-set battle with Buffalo State University. McKenna capped his week by recording a career-high 22 digs in the Lions’ 3-1 triumph over Hilbert College on April 4.

On the week, McKenna totaled 40 digs across 14 sets, averaging 2.86 digs per set. He also posted a .947 reception percentage on the week. He currently ranks fourth in the AMCC in total digs (209) and digs per set (2.32).

This is McKenna’s first career AMCC Defensive Player of the Week award.

Penn State Altoona men’s volleyball is 9-16 overall, including a 7-5 mark within the AMCC. The Lions, who earned the No. 4 seed in the upcoming conference postseason tournament, will face No. 1 seed Buffalo State in a semifinal round playoff match on April 8 at 7 p.m. in Buffalo.
