NORTH BOSTON, N.Y. — The Penn State Altoona women’s volleyball team swept the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference weekly awards, as the conference office announced two Lions were recipients of this week’s accolades on Oct. 6.

Libero/defensive specialist Brianna Woodring, of Greencastle, was selected as the AMCC’s Defensive Player of the Week, while Lia Simanski, of Altoona, was chosen for the AMCC’s Offensive Player of the Week.

This week’s award is the first of Simanski’s college career. Woodring is a consecutive winner of the Defensive Player of the Week award, having won the award last week for her performances for the Lions.

Simanski and Woodring would both play crucial roles in Tuesday’s three set sweep of Penn State Berks. On the defensive end, Woodring would lead the team in digs, tallying 10 in three sets played. Offensively, Simanski would have five kills on seven attempts for a 71.4% kill percentage, the highest in the team.

In the 3-0 sweep of Penn State Hazelton, Woodring would again lead the team in digs with 13. Simanski would lead the team in kills, tallying eight in two sets.

Later that day, in a three-set loss to Elizabethtown, Woodring recorded 20 digs. On the offensive end, Simanski would post 11 kills as the Lions would keep the score tight in each of the sets, even forcing the second set to extra points.

On the week, Woodring would tally 43 digs, averaging 4.78 digs per set. Simanski would have 24.0 points (4.0 points per set) on 24 kills (4.0 kills per set) with a .250 attack percentage.

Simanski ranks sixth in conference for kills with 165 and fifth in kills per set with 3.30. Woodring ranks seventh in digs with 236 and digs per set with 4.21.
