UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa — Native tree and shrub sale customers or anyone interested in learning proper tree-planting techniques for long-term success can attend a webinar hosted by the Penn State Extension Master Watershed Steward Program.
The “Proper Native Tree Planting for Long-Term Success” webinar will occur from noon to 1:30 p.m. on Sept. 2.
The long-term success of newly planted trees depends on more than proper planting techniques. Site selection and follow-up care play critical roles in establishing healthy, resilient trees and shrubs, according to organizers.
The webinar will feature a community tree specialist from the Pennsylvania Bureau of Forestry who will share guidance on selecting appropriate planting locations based on site conditions and planting area size.
Participants will explore best practices for planting and caring for trees, with a focus on container trees and the species featured in the 2026 Master Watershed Steward Watershed-Friendly Native Tree and Shrub Fundraiser Sale.
Organizers note that space is limited, so preregistration is required. The registration deadline is Sept. 2 and carries a fee of $5. Those who purchase a tree through the annual native tree and shrub sale will receive a $5 coupon code for complimentary access to the webinar.
Registration is required to receive the link to access the webinar. A link to the recorded webinar will be emailed to registrants within 10 business days after the live event. The recording will be accessible for six months from the event date.
