McKEESPORT, Pa. — Barrett Scroggs has been named campus chief academic officer at Penn State Greater Allegheny. He has served in the role on an interim basis since July 2024, when he was appointed interim director of academic affairs and chief academic officer.

In that role, Scroggs has overseen all academic programming at the campus. He helped lead several campus priorities, including the launch of academic program advisory boards to strengthen alignment between academic offerings and workforce needs.

He also oversaw the creation of the Resource, Inspiration, Success and Engagement Center and supported the expansion of strategic student success initiatives across the campus.

“Barrett has provided steady, thoughtful leadership over the past two years, and I’m pleased to formally welcome him into this role,” said Regional Chancellor Megan Nagel. “His impact is already evident across the campus, and I look forward to what’s ahead under his continued leadership.”

Nagel also thanked the search committee, chaired by Michelle Gordon, for its thoughtful and intentional work throughout the process.

Scroggs joined Penn State in 2018 as an assistant professor of human development and family studies at Penn State Mont Alto, the same year he earned his doctorate in life-span human development from Kansas State University. His research focuses on the experiences of LGBTQIA+ emerging adults as they transition from adolescence to adulthood. He was promoted to associate professor in 2023 and appointed assistant director of academic affairs at Penn State Mont Alto.

“Every day, I see colleagues who are committed to helping students grow academically, personally and professionally,” Scroggs said. “The expertise of our talented faculty, innovative academic programs, and student-centered academic support services creates an environment where students are empowered to thrive and achieve their goals. I look forward to building on our momentum by continuing to work closely with faculty and staff to create a vibrant future for this campus.”
