UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State faculty members preparing for retirement are invited to attend the upcoming "Faculty Retirement Workshop: Navigating the Transition," a webinar hosted by the Office of Faculty Affairs. Designed to support faculty in making thoughtful and informed decisions about retirement, the webinar provides guidance on both the practical and academic aspects of transitioning out of a full-time faculty role.
The workshop will take place on Friday, June 6, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. via Zoom Webinar. No registration is required.
The session is open to tenure-line and non-tenure-line faculty and provides valuable information about phased retirement options, emeritus status, continued scholarly engagement, and how to navigate the personal and professional transitions that often accompany retirement.
"Retirement is not just a conclusion — it can be a meaningful evolution,” said Abby Diehl, associate vice provost for faculty affairs. “This workshop helps faculty think ahead about what support mechanisms exist to ease that transition — and how to shape a retirement that sustains meaningful ties to their field and fosters continued impact."
This webinar complements the retirement workshop offered through Human Resources, which focuses on the logistics of retiring from Penn State, including benefits, timelines and eligibility. Faculty are encouraged to consult HR’s Guide to Retirement online workbook for additional planning tools and a list of upcoming HR sessions.
