Preliminary vote count shows support for faculty union representation

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The results of faculty union election conducted by the Pennsylvania Labor Relations Board (PLRB) indicate that a majority of faculty who cast ballots chose to be represented by Penn State Faculty Alliance/SEIU Local 668, with 2,510 votes cast in favor of representation and 847 votes cast against.

Out of 5,351 total eligible voters, a total of 3,357 ballots were counted. Under applicable labor law, the outcome is determined by a majority of votes cast, not a majority of all eligible voters.

Because the results remain subject to the PLRB certification process, the University will share additional information following certification of the election results.

We recognize that faculty, staff, and academic leaders may have questions about what this preliminary outcome means and what happens next.

Penn State remains committed to supporting faculty, maintaining academic excellence, and communicating throughout this process. The University will continue providing updates and additional resources on the faculty union website as information becomes available.
