New features launching in Workday to enhance the Penn State user experience

Workday Journeys, Global Navigation and the Manager Insights Hub will centralize and streamline tasks

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Three new features are launching on June 29 to enhance the user experience in Workday. The enhancements within Workday — Workday Journeys, Global Navigation and the Manager Insights Hub — will help centralize and streamline tasks within Penn State’s Human Resources portal. These new features are part of ongoing efforts to improve the overall employee experience.

All staff members will receive their first Workday Journey on June 29, which will introduce them to the other new tools. The Journey will be available in the “Awaiting your actions” and “Notifications” sections in Workday.

"The focus of these updates is to make Workday tools more accessible and intuitive for all users. These changes will also give managers tools to help simplify and enhance day-to-day management responsibilities, making it easier to manage, support and communicate with direct reports,” said Jennifer Wilkes, Penn State’s vice president for Human Resources and chief human resources officer. “These upgrades are part of our ongoing efforts to improve the manager and employee experiences and streamline processes.”

The new Workday features are:

  • Workday Journeys: A comprehensive training and communication tool intended to guide users through important tasks and events within Workday. It brings together job aid resources, links, tasks and reports directly in Workday to improve employee workflows and eliminate the need to switch between Penn State systems. The first Journey will be launched June 29 to introduce the new tools.

  • Global Navigation: A new navigation experience for the Workday menu. The new persistent navigation menu appears on the side of every page in Workday, allowing users to have quick access to their most-used apps, reports and shortcuts. This new feature will also simplify the different access points for various tasks in Workday by directing managers to the new Manager Insights Hub and employees to their Worker Profile.

  • Manager Insights Hub: A central area in Workday where managers can quickly access essential manager-related tasks, reports and resources, making it easier to manage, support and communicate with direct reports.

Training resources are available to help employees navigate the new features and are included in the Journey that will be available on June 29. Managers can still register for one of two remaining live training sessions through the Learning Resource Network (LRN) at 1 p.m. on June 29 or at 9:30 a.m. on June 30.
