Finance OST: New financial shared services model to launch on Feb. 24

The new operating model will modernize the University’s financial services, strengthening consistency and collaboration across units

At-a-glance

  • The third and final phase of the new shared services model for finance will launch on Feb. 24, enacting a modernized approach for the University under Finance and Business.
  • After launch, there will be a 90-day “hypercare” period, where employees will have support to rapidly address issues, answer questions, and provide guidance in real time. This period is intended to ensure business continuity and build user confidence as the University transitions to new workflows and ways of working.
  • The transition will begin on Feb. 17, when new financial transactions will be temporarily paused and resume on Feb. 24.

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Guided by the Finance Optimized Service Team (OST), the University will complete the phased launch of a new financial shared service operating model on Feb. 24.

The transition represents a significant step in modernizing the University’s financial services, aiming to strengthen consistency across units and improve the overall experience for faculty, staff and students.

"We remain committed to a thoughtful, people-centered approach to this transformation, prioritizing stability, transparency and long-term improvement," said Sara Thorndike, senior vice president for Finance and Business / treasurer. “I want to extend my gratitude to everyone who has supported the initiative across the University by providing feedback, contributing to workshops, and engaging with us as we establish this new working model for the University.”

Transition period and “Hypercare” support

To support a smooth transition, the University will implement a temporary transition period beginning on Feb. 17. Additional details can be found on the Office of Enterprise Change & Transformation website.

As the new operating model launches, there will be “hypercare” support for all faculty and staff for at least 90 days, designed to rapidly address issues, answer questions, and provide guidance in real time. This period will support business continuity and build user confidence as the University transitions to new financial workflows.

The “hypercare” support period will include:

  • Dedicated support teams to triage and resolve issues quickly
  • Clear escalation paths for urgent or complex needs
  • Daily coordination across Finance OST leadership, Information Technology, and hub teams
  • Ongoing communications to share updates, guidance and known issues

Additional details on how to access “hypercare” will be shared in the coming weeks. Training, resources, and robust communications will also continue throughout the spring. Unit initiators (employees who will submit financial transactions for processing) are encouraged to register for training.
