UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State's Office of Planning Assessment and Institutional Research (OPAIR) is launching a new Assessment Community of Practice. Faculty, staff and students interested in strengthening their assessment strategies are invited to attend the first Zoom session, "Making Assessment Work for You," on Tuesday, April 14, from noon to 1 p.m. The first session focuses on adaptable assessment strategies that align with participants' work and drive meaningful improvement.
The Assessment Community of Practice sessions are designed to support assessment practitioners as they navigate key stages of curricular and cocurricular program learning assessment processes. The initiative also seeks to produce meaningful dialogue, giving participants a space to exchange assessment strategies, share effective practices, and gain insights from colleagues across programs and campuses.
During each session, attendees will join small, focused breakout groups where they will collaborate to identify approaches and solutions to common topics in assessment practice. Discussion topics will include gathering meaningful assessment data, utilizing assessment tools (e.g., curriculum maps, rubrics, etc.), professionally showcasing assessment work, and additional topics shaped by community interests and feedback.
