UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State students and community members are invited to attend a virtual mini-symposium Jan. 30-31 on public health and agricultural preparedness in rural communities.
The event, “Preparedness in Rural Communities: National and State/Local Perspectives and Plans,” is tailored for researchers, educators, leaders and students interested in public health and agricultural preparedness. It will feature speakers from federal agencies, research universities, and organizations.
The first day will focus on national perspectives, and state and local perspectives will be explored during the second day. Both sessions run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Attendees and presenters will identify opportunities in public health and agricultural preparedness and response in rural communities.
Speakers will also prompt students to understand federal strategic plans and to consider how Penn State can further research, training and outreach in preparedness of rural communities of Pennsylvania and beyond.
The virtual mini-symposium is sponsored by the graduate Homeland Security Public Health Preparedness option, offered by the Penn State College of Medicine online through Penn State World Campus.
The graduate homeland security programs are interdisciplinary graduate professional programs that give students the chance to learn about homeland security legislation, policies, strategy and more. The program offers a base option as well as options and certificates in agricultural biosecurity and food defense, counterterrorism, cyber threat analytics and prevention, intelligence and geospatial analysis, and public health preparedness.
Registration is free for students of Penn State and Immaculata University. General registration is $25. All attendees must register by Jan. 28.
