McKEESPORT, Pa. — Andrea Stevens, assistant teaching professor of microbiology at Penn State Greater Allegheny, has been named one of the 2025 “40 Under 40” honorees by PUMP and Pittsburgh Magazine.

Stevens serves as Greater Allegheny’s science labs coordinator and coordinator of the Undergraduate Clinical Research Training Program, which prepares students for careers in clinical and biomedical research. She also integrates career readiness into the campus curriculum and leads STEM outreach in local elementary schools.

Her research examines the neuroimmune response in neurodegenerative disease, with a focus on pain and neuroinflammation. She also mentors students in the SECURE Lab and teaches courses in neuroscience, microbiology, immunology and anatomy and physiology.

She earned her doctorate in neurobiology from Duquesne University, a master’s degree in neuroscience from Chatham University and a bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Pittsburgh.

Since 1998, the "40 Under 40" Awards have recognized more than 2,000 artists, entrepreneurs, educators, business leaders, nonprofit executives and public figures who have shaped the Pittsburgh region. Honorees are selected for their professional accomplishments and community impact from a nomination pool that typically exceeds 250 each year. A panel of past honorees, community leaders and program sponsors reviews nominations and selects the final 40 awardees.

The program, presented by PUMP and Pittsburgh Magazine, culminates in a fall reception that draws more than 400 attendees. The 2025 honorees will be recognized Friday, Nov. 21, at the Rivers Casino Event Center and featured in the November issue of the magazine.
