For Chancellor and Dean Gary Liguori, Penn State Abington’s commitment to student success is deeply personal. As a first-generation college student himself, Liguori understands the challenges many students face today. Those experiences continue to shape how he views Penn State Abington’s role in helping students navigate obstacles, find support and connect with the educational, professional and civic opportunities abundant in Philadelphia and the surrounding communities.

About the chancellor

Liguori became chancellor and dean of Penn State Abington in July 2024 after serving as provost and vice president for academic affairs at the University of West Florida. He brings more than 30 years of experience in higher education as a faculty member, researcher and administrator focused on student success and institutional growth. Liguori earned a doctorate in wellness and human development from North Dakota State University, a master’s degree in cardiac rehabilitation/exercise science from East Stroudsburg University, and a bachelor’s degree in fitness/wellness from the University of Central Missouri.
