ABINGTON, Pa. — Jamila H. Winder, chair of the Montgomery County Board of Commissioners, will address Penn State Abington graduates at the noon commencement ceremony on May 8.

Winder will share lessons learned from two decades of executive management experience in the private sector and a deep understanding of the challenges facing county residents, neighborhoods and small businesses. Her professional leadership spans health care, higher education, and education technology, where she led organizational strategies, global partnerships and workforce development.

Winder has lifelong ties to Montgomery County, which includes the Abington campus. She graduated from Norristown Area High School and earned a bachelor’s degree from Penn State in media studies and an MBA from Eastern University.

Inspired by her family’s commitment to education and public service, Winder is rooted in her commitment to give back to the community. After serving on the Norristown Area School Board from 2017 to 2020 and on the East Norriton Township Board of Supervisors from 2020 to 2023, she joined the county commissioners in 2023.

The keynote speakers at Abington's 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. commencement ceremonies on May 8 will be graduating students.
